If Covenant Christians expect to win the war against evil we will have to lose some battles. Most of them are internal to us.
I think about the Fathers of the Stripling Warriors who laid down their weapons of war and chose not to engage in battle the worldly way and gave up their lives saving the Nephite nation.
We haven’t been asked to sacrifice our lives unto death but we have been asked to sacrifice our name, reputation, and standing among men. The Lord was rejected of the world because He wasn’t of the world. To be a disciple is to walk the path He walked.
If we as a people are to achieve victory, we need to do things radically different and be radically different than the world and not use the weapons the world has given us to use they way it wants us to use them. We have to reject that impulse and follow the way the Lord would have us go. We can’t expect to do things the way the they have been done before and expect different outcomes.
Our lives really aren’t our own. We can choose to live and conduct ourselves the Lords way and be an instrument for Him and His purposes or we can choose to live according to the dictates of our own conscience. Those who essentially live as servants of the Lord to bring about the His purposes become co-inheritors with Him and all that He has. What is it to gain the whole world and lose yourself?
We will be judged according to our works. Whether they be good or evil. Nothing worldly can be called good. Consider what the Lord would have you do and how He would have you do it in all things. Would He have you go to battle as the world does battle and get caught up in the distractions of worldly ways or would He give you another way that doesn’t seem so obvious? Remember, His ways aren’t our ways and our ways aren’t His ways.
